Top mount compatibility?? 90 - 94

Post by bivywack »

I've been searching this forum for the few days reading up on air suspension conversion. I know this topic gets beat pretty hard, and I have searched pretty extensively. However, I still can't find a definite answer on something. If the answer is obvious and I missed it, then I apologize for my noobness.

So, I'm switching out my air suspension (flat, flat, flat). I've got a line on a few parts cars, but they aren't a 94. They are 90 and 91 model years.

Assuming that we're talking apples and apples, i.e. AWD wagon (non-turbo, non-sedan, etc). Can I swap rear suspension assemblies from any Legacy in the 90 - 94 range? I will be swapping out the entire assemblies, not piecing together the parts.

I know the top mounts for the 90-91 are different than the 92 - 94 (they have different part numbers in the parts list). But are these top mounts different in how they mount to the car, or how they assemble to the rest of the assembly?

I've found differing opinions in my searches here and at the Ultimate Subaru forum.

Can anybody advise?

Thanks,
B

Tapered springs ... duh

I found the answer. I guess I needed to do a little more research. As far as I can tell, the assemblies should swap fine. The top mounts are different due to the tapered springs vs. non-tapered springs.

Patting my noob-self on the back.

There's a ton of great information in this forum guys. Thanks for all the posting. It's really helping me out. :-D
