Demented VW driver
heyall i'm a demented VW owner that has his eye on the EJ20 /22 as the perfect engine for the VW Swap. Do u guys have any idea where i can buy a carburretted /EFI engine that i can put in my volks? As much as i like the EFI the headache of sorting out the loom might be too much for me (unless u guys will help)
Apart from that I found a barebone stockEJ22 JDM engine. I would like to find all the missing electrical/elecronic bits before i committ and buy it. Can yall help!! Thanks in advance.

if you want a naturaly aspirated engine, just find a local Legacy that's got a rough body and pick up the whole donar car for your swap. The injection is pretty simple on these cars (only a handful of sensors) having a whole car will make it easy and a beat up/wrecked legacy in the early 90's can be had for a few hundred bucks

You could convert one to carb easy enough. EJ22s are cheap and plentiful. That JDM engine must be a 2.0.

carbs dont make a lot of sense for an ej22 IMHO. the only ones worth running(dells, webers, mikunis) are $$$. putting on a distributor is really difficult and custom, while a custom ignition system is also difficult and expensive and at that point you might as well do a megasquirt with which you might as well run fuel injection anyway.
a ej22 with cams and a header with a muffler on the end would be plenty of power for a beetle. more than that you'd probably need a rancho trans or 901 trans or something.

They might not make sense, but look how beautiful that pic is!

That's purdy!
I'm contemplating finding a bug to swap my engine into since I blew my tranny, but I'm afraid I'll just start blowing VW trannies instead.

find a 22.t donar car. bugs with boost they are fun as hell to drive. or fine a 22 donar car. low end with little top end (NA), or little low end and tons of top end (turbo) go fuel injection. so much less hasel. plus you have all the help you will ever need on this site

carburetto rand mega squirt convertion
I am very intrigued in the carb with megasquirt option, can u recommend a pre configured MS system for the Subby. From what i've read the MS is open source and u wo it at ur own risk. Also the wiring to the suby engine( Harness) do u have any recommedations? Thanks in advance, Handel
most all the subaru TPS, CTS, VRS, will work except you will need to use the MS map sensor, some IAT sensor, and some IAC valve. no MAF.
for ignition, somebody just decoded the wierd subaru crank trigger(!!!!) which allows you to wire the stock crank VR sensor straight into the megasquirt. the other way to do ignition is to put a 36-1 wheel on the crank and run a ford EDIS system.
MSnS+E is the best system to use.
