Okay, so I'm taking a 2800-mile road trip to go back east starting July 12. Corsair's thread inspired me to ask some questions of my own about the condition of my car.
It has only 61,000 miles on it. Work recently done not including oil changes:
February 06 (56,000 mi): tuneup (plugs, wires, filters, etc.), purge control solenoid.
January 06 (52,500 mi): front struts
September 05 (51,800 mi): brake fluid flush, "fuel system induction sevice" (fuel pump tested, a bunch of engine stuff cleaned)
November 02 (48,500 mi): new battery, starter and alternator checked
October 02 (48,400 mi): new clutch/flywheel, gear oil, axle/differential seals, exhaust gaskets
November 01 (47,500 mi): AC belt, alternator/PS belt
Septmeber 99 (43,750 mi): full AC service (expansion valve, drier bottle, compressor), both front axles
Known problems:
Front right CV boot has been torn for a couple of months. Should I replace just the boot, or the axle as well? What do I have to remove to replace the boot?
What is an easy way to check the brakes? What is involved? They are squeaky but I don't know how worn they are.
Throwout bearing is unevenly worn. I'm not planning on doing anything about this before the trip.
Rear struts are pretty much dead. I'm also not planning on doing those yet.
Anything else I should do? Oil was last changed less than 1000 miles ago.

Replace axle. If boot has been torn for a bit...it's been spewing and being contaminated.
Check brakes? Remove wheels and look through the holes in caliber. If that doesn't work, just undo the caliber bolt and check...it's not too hard.
