Engine cuts out

Post by gwyneddcraft »

I have a 1994 twin turbo Legacy estate. The engine warning light came on and engine started to cut out above about 2500-3000rpm. If I turn engine of and restart no light and all is ok. If light comes on again it starts to cut out again. Something smells hot near front of engine but no signs of overheating and radiator remains cool. Any ideas.

Welcome. It is helpful if you put your location in profile. I am guessing England, but with a name like that maybe Wales.

Anyhoo.

It sounds like something is putting you in fail-safe mode. If you connect the black test connectors under the dash, turn the key to ON. Then the ecu will flash any trouble codes that are in the memory.

I would possibly take a guess at the MAF sensor, but you should pull the codes to see what / if any codes are stored.
