manual conversion, need help.

Post by malla »

hi guys,

i just completed re-assembling my 90 gt wagon(engine and gearbox donated by 90 RS type R) and now its not starting.

ive narrowed it down to an electrical problem.i turned the starter over with power straight from the battery so now realise the wire to the starter is dead.

the only connection not fitted is the 4 pin plug on the gearbox.
dio i need to do some makeshift wiring?
how does the ecu know not to detect the gearbox?

i have also changed the dashboard cluster which for the first time
i have only seen take 3 plugs not all four plugs.

Did you replace the AT ECU with a MT ECU?

Did you wire in the clutch-lock system (the system that keeps the car from starting if the clutch isn't pressed)?

US turbo Legacies have 2 wires different going into the ECU than their NA counterparts

was your GT Wagon turbo or was it like the US GT wagons and naturally aspirated?

your best bet would be to compare both wiring harnesses using a diagram, personally I'm not familiar with either car

Have you read my write-up about my conversion?

Was this car originally AT? What wiring conversion have you done?

I'm assuming you found my write-up
www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap

It sounds like you have a starter issue. Once you release the key, the solenoid should pop back.

Once you verified that the key is releasing, and you're not getting power at the solenoid, I'd take apart the solenoid and see if I could get it to stick.
