Hello,
I'm a new Member & have a question. I bought a 1992 Subaru Legacy with an Ej22T engine. We heard it run before I bought it & it sounded great !! When I went to pick it up,it had no battery & We borrowed one out of another car & tried to start it.
It wouldn't start so We thought that it maybe was out of gas as the fuel gage was very low. We added fuel, but it still wouldn't start. We put it on the trailer & brought it Home.
After getting it Home & checking it over We primed it & it started & ran until the prime ran out. Where would You folks suggest that I start troubleshooting?
Thanks Andy
1992 Legacy won't start

Check to see if you have fuel delivery. Since it ran for a short time with a prime, you pretty much know that spark, air, and timing are at least somewhat in place. Disconnect the output hose at the fuel filter (can shaped on the driver side front shock tower) and crank the car with the hose aiming into a catch can of some sort. You should use two people to do this, so one can crank and the other can keep any fuel from randomly spraying around.
If you don't get any fuel, check the electrical connection to the fuel pump- it's under the rear seat on the passenger side. A common failure point. If those connections are alright, it may be the fuel pump.
Search around here for more details, but this should get you pointed in the right direction.

There is no emergency shut off switch. There is only a rollover valve, and that shouldn't be activated unless the car rolled over.
Have you tried pulling the fuel feed line off fuel line, put it in a jar, and have someone crank to see if fuel comes out when cranking the motor?
Be careful when doing this, but it should tell you whether you have fuel or not.

I checked for fuel at the fuel filter & it has fuel pressure at the filter when cranking the engine. Where would I go next? It's been 100 degrees almost everyday this week here & I haven't gotten out to mess with it.
Thanks Andy
pull the codes.
do a search to find out how to read the engine computer (ECU) diagnostic codes, and also how to interpret them. let us know what you find.
