How to title a vehicle?

Post by n2x4 »

I got a jeep on ebay, and the guy didn't have the title (didn't find out til I got there). I got the jeep anyway since it was only $500 bucks, and I wanted to try and get it titled. I did some searching online and I found a few sites but they looked kinda shady.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and could help me out. I'm from ohio, if that helps any. Thanks!

title services basically you sign the vehicle over to the title service that operates in a state with very lax title laws(bill of sale only on 1985 or older vehicles) like NV or NH I believe, they title it there, and "sell" it back to you. I suppose its legal...
your other option is to go through the DMV and they will make you jump through a bunch of hoops.
1. get a title search to find leins on the vehicle
2. run an ad in the paper to prove you looked for the previous titleholder to see if they have an interest in the vehicle
3. get a surety bond for the vehicle
4. get insurance
5. go get inspected at the highway patrol
6. take allyour paperwork back to the DMV and they issue you a title.
this is how it works in CO,maybe slightly different in your area.
