Poll: Who is still on a 56k connection?

Post by Richard »

I always see posts w/ pics that say "not 56k friendly". I was wondering who is still on dial up and living in a cave.

DSL primarily. I don't know what I'll have at college, but it WILL be fast.

Its like using a rock for a modem, probably collects moss too. But it'll have to do untill I start bringing in more plunder.

I'm on high speed wireless right now, but I'm hoping to sell my house and buy a certain place in a itty-bitty little town 12 miles away that has no available high speed short of expensive satellite. So I may be joining the 56K crew. :P

Isn't 56k the same as tin cans and a string?

I have it at work due to the owners being the biggest cheapasses on the planet.
want to know how cheap they are? we needed some peg board to hang stuff on and they went to an auction to look for some.

Yeah, like anyone is going to say 'I' to be ridiculed :) . Out here there's lots of places that STILL don't even offer cable or DSL and there's some high end homes in those areas too. It's a population thing.

at my house there is no choice other than satellite ($$$$ AND latency, I hear?) or 56k...

luckily I work 50 hrs/wk and I work for a sort of conglomeration of ISP's....

so I just never get online from home.. I work with computers, why spend all my free time using them too?
yo mang, can I get a rootshell?

I'm one of the 56k votes. But, in fairness, I've only stuck with 56k at my apartment and I don't spend a ton of time there. I spend more time on T1 at work or WiFi->Cable at my newlywed's place.

So yeah, even though I'm a 56k person, I don't think it's very common and not worth bending over backwards for

Well I live on a mountain, so as of now DSL or any other high speed internet (other than satelite) is unavailable. So I'm on dialup 28.8kbps

I'm still on my sweet sweet university connection for another semester.

Unfortunately my new wireless card either sucks or is in the wrong place because I'm getting like 120k down at best instead of the usual 450.

I'm on dial-up, but it's free as I dial up directly to a server a block away at work. There's cable internet in my apartment, a cable modem and router in a kitchen drawer, but I just don't care to mess with it. My cave is a refuge where I'm not being contacted every few minutes. Heck, I tossed out the answering machine weeks ago.
