keyless entry problem

Post by smidge »

got a weird problem...

97 legacy gtb... with infrared keyless built into the key

central locking works as it should, but the keyless system will not work - auto electrician with years of experience could not work it out

1. i pull the keyless fuse and re-install it, i can use the remote twice only
2. the locks snap lock and instantly unlock again
3. i have to press the button twice to get it to do even that
4. after two tries it will not work at all until i remove power and start over...

pulled the keyless box out, no damage to it or any components...

any ideas? would love to keep the system original and not have a fugly keyfob hanging off my keyring

Normally when you hit lock and then it locks and then unlocks, there is a sensor or wire that is not complete- so the brain box leaves it as unlocked until the problem is fixed. This happened on our 01 Impreza until I figured out which connection was not working. This happens as a failsafe so the car does not get locked with the alarm having issues.
Yes I have too many Subarus

thats a good point, thankyou...

i can't think of any connections that would be broken but i'll have to keep looking...

also the buzzer in the drivers door for the manual keyless entry doesn't work under any conditions..
