If this is for your rally car, I would stick with 90's as your replacement. They are bigger bar stock on the axles than anything but STi axles...

Yup for the rally car. Good to know that the 90's are bigger/beefier-thanks. Is that just for the bc-bf Legacys or also the gc-gm imprezas?

Anyway, I'm looking for cheap spares and though running the thicker ones may be ideal, if I can't get any for a price I'm willing to pay then I'd like to know what other models and years I can scavenge from. MT 1st gen Legacies are pretty scarce in the yards around here. Finally, can the rear axles from automatics be used on a manual?

Thanks

The FWD axles are what are bigger. The 90 AWD axles are not any different then the other MY's from what I have seen.
