probably not the place to ask about this turbo but......i have a 1995 gigantic tubo of a ford f 250 diesel. its in perfect condition and just huge. my aunt is giving it to me. what kinda lag am i looking at. its gonna be a pain doing the fab but i dont mind.

any idea on the size of the turbo or anything else?

There exists a definite possibility that it will have infinite lag, that your engine will never put out enough exhaust gas to spool it up.

You are lucky that I'm sitting about 10 feet from a master diesel tech in the ford service department right now. Obviously the turbo is meant for a 8 cylinder diesel, and puting it on a lil' 4 banger (his words) is going to result in unbearable lag. If you have ever driven a ford turbo diesel you know even they have huge lag. Now imagine that doubled and then some.

But I say do it for shits and giggles.

yea i was figuring that. but with enough fuel anything is possible. i still got it. it will just have to wait for one of my other projects around the garage

Just a note on using diesel turbos on gas engines... Diesels dont generate any real manifold vacuum (no throttle body, open intake track from air filter to valve), so many of the turbos they use dont have seals on the compressor side that will keep the oil in under vacuum.

double plus right on what Gary said, putting a turbocharger designed for a diesel on a car that runs a gasoline engine will have several effects:

1: you'll never spool it, because an F250 diesel is likely twice if not almost three times more the displacement - which has a direct effect on how much exhaust gas will push against the turbine blades.
2: Manifold vacuum created by the engine will trash the turbocharger because it's not designed to be under a steady vacuum. It will also burn lots of oil for this very same fact.

diesel's don't have throttle plates and always put out slightly above atmospheric pressure even at idle - subjecting one to a vacuum is bad mojo.

Anyway, Your engine simply doesn't have the displacement to spool a turbocharger of that size - you'd need twice the more displacement at the very least, and no ammount of fuel can make up for that.
