what is the right size offset that us legacy's need? i picked up some 17's with 40 series tires for cheap, but i think the offset was at 40. they sounded bad when going about 35MPH and up going straight.
i cant see a damn thing that it would rub on though. the rears actually looked like they were just perfect and didnt touch anything. it sounded like it was coming from the rear though. i dunno, im stumped.

Tone-us,
I also got the same exact VW rims for free and planning on putting them in on my 91 Legacy. Talk about a coincidence
But mine is a wagon however. Now I got a few Q's for you...
1. What type of lug nuts did you use? What's their length?
2. Is your car lowered in your later pics? Or does your car rubs even with stock suspension?
3. Did you use spacers?
4. Once installed, do the VW rims spaced properly with the rotors / brake calipers?
5. Is there any other thing you use to run these VW rims?
Please let me know, thanks
JOHN

Gee Spoolin,
LOL, I put them on and decided I didn't like them? So I went with the Stockies steelies for now. As for your questions
1.) You need to buy 25 "Ball" or "Bulge" style lugnut with a thread pitch of 1.25. I had to look everywhere just to find them, Tuner style ones will not work. They need to be the 1.25 thread pitch.
2.) My car was not lowered in the later pics. I just drove the car up on that hilly grass so the suspension would flex to the max...i.e. I put a lot of weight on one corner of the car to see what it would look like if it were lowered, and the same with the rear. The rears rubbed when taking medium to hard turns.... This was the main reason why I took them off. I was going to roll the fenders to see if they still rubbed but haven't got around to it. So they might clear with them done?
3.) No spacers were used. The wheels sat flush with the fenders of the car.... I have no doubt that it would have looked better if the car was lowered a few inches.
4.) Yes, everything cleared and ran fine. I didn't notice any wobbling, only thing I noticed was the rubbing and the extra amount of road noise which was probably because of the bald RE'92's!
5.) At first I thought the lugnuts were comming loose.... or the rim was still sitting it'self.....but all that was just paranoia! Make sure you tighten them well, check them everyday untill you feel comfortable with them. Other than that I don't know what to tell you? I mean I don't know the long term affects since they weren't on my car that long? Let me know if you have any more questions.

Sure you may see more newer VW on the side of the road, but keep in mind that all car manufactures have done away with the quality that they used to build with. Yes there are a few exceptions to that which Subaru does not belong. I'm thinking more along the lines of Toyota who has held onto a well deserved reputation. I love my Subaru (1990) because it is older and in my eyes still during the period when you could expect it to hold together. When you not only expected to get 200,000+ miles out of it but demanded it. Now I wouldn't plan on driving a Subi much more than half of that. I also love my Passat, Germans have a way with comforts and luxuries. I probably won't get as many miles out of it as my older Subi but I will get as many as if I would have bought a new Legacy.evolutionmovement wrote: I see more VW products on the side of the road (and frequently, and relatively new) than any other company (yes, even more than old Chrysler products or Korean makes).

It's true that the best cars were probably built in the late '80's to early '90's, but there were plenty of trash VWs then, too. Either way, I don't have faith in my Mazda to go much past 100k and I'm already over 30k.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

holy dredging from the dead, batman!
VWs suck. Plastic cooling system?!? There's a stroke of brilliance!
As far as the good old days, seems that obd1 cars are the ones that last. VW made crap obd1 too though; at least they're consistent.
