The JECS maf is a marked improvement over the metal maf. But..... it still can be maxed out. I am hitting 4.5 volts at 10 psi and since I will be back at 13-14 psi by Tuesday, and expect to get to possibly 16 psi soon, I know I need a little more range in the MAF.
So......
If you look at the JECS maf, the opening at both ends is 3". But the intake side suddenly restricts to 2.5". I plan to bore this section out on a milling machine.
The catch is that the area that is restricted, is also smaller on the exterior, meaning that if you were to bore this out to the same diameter as the rest of the tube, you would cut All the plastic and the MAF would be rendered useless.
So I will be filling in the sections with epoxy first, and the plastic ribs will hold the end section to the main section. Then I will be able to bore away!!!!!
If this works I will of course let everyone know and possibly offer it as a service.

just remove the sensor from the housing and place it in a larger tube. The practice is pretty common on lots of cars.
On a side note, anyone try to use a Jecs MAF from a q45? They are pretty massive and I think the plug is even the same. I've got one and plan to test it out when I get the car running.... lots of other projects have slowed that down a lot though

It "works" so far.
I damaged the sensor by boring too deep but I had an extra so I swapped out the electrical and reinstalled it.
As far as NA is concerned, it definately works. But I have to wait until tonight to try it on boost since if I try now I will blow silicone everywhere and be a boost leak.

its very easy to damage the sensor isnt it.
I was smoothing out all the sharp edges on mine with a file to look like a velocity stack, barely touched the element and it broke.
Id suggest wrapping a bunch of duct tape around the sensor housing or something like that. remove it if you feel like screwing around with regluing it.
a larger housing sounds like a much better idea for custom apps and would be easier to put it anywhere you wanted.
