getting ready to do the swap

Post by bmxkelowna »

i have finaly been able to find every thing (i hope) that i need to go from 4eat to 5mt, awd to awd.
just a few questions.
i will be getting the tranny, driveshaft, rear diff, rear cv axles and every thing else i will need from a 96 legacy.
will i run into any problems using all that stuff from that 96 into my 92?
will i still be able to use my 92 ecu? what happens with the tcu?
will the 96 tranny brace fit my car and work?
is there any thing else i need to know?

I don't believe you'll run into any issues.

Yes to keeping the ECU, TCU can be removed, tranny brace should fit & work.

Are you getting any of the electrical stuff?

You getting the pedals and all that stuff? Is the clutch setup cable or hydraulic? If hydraulic, use the template from my write-up to cut out the hole.

I'd also take the starter interlock relay, and connectors so you can just plug and play. However, if another guy is doing it, he may have a system.

You may want to show him my swap write-up if he hasn't done any new gen stuff. It may help out.

Hey, I'm doing my FWD to AWD swap starting next month. I just finished sourcing all the major parts. I'm lazy, so I got myself a cheap '93 5MT FWD Legacy locally  So basically all I'd have to do is swap the tranny, put in the rear differential and the associated members, and the rear end.

I got me an AWD tranny from a '96 Outback. It's a cable tranny. I'm keeping mine cable. Let's keep in touch, I'm sure we'll run into some problems down the road.
