Rolled my 94 legacy-engine/tranny swap

Post by blackmax »

rolled my 94 leagcy awd several times and ended up on roof-car is totalled. the engine /tranny only have 160,00klm on them. I have a 93 with a blown engine. I haven't tried to start the 94 yet to see if is okay. Any tips/advise would be great. I would have to switch quite a few other parts etc to the 93 to get a good car but engione/tranny are the main things. Will the engine normally survive a rollover? Help!

If Colin McRae's example at the X-games is any indication, your engine and tranny will most likely be fine. :)

The best you can do is remove them and to an external visual inspection. If it doesn't appear than anything has impacted the ground and gotten broke, you will probably be all right.

And glad you are walking/talking with us today. Be careful going forward and pay attention to yourself. I rolled a car in '97 and once my wounds had healed (seperated shoulder, damaged cervical vertebrae, and multiple head wounds requiring more than 3 dozen staples and stitches) I thought I was fine. Then about 3 months later I spiralled into a deep depression coupled with overwhelming panic attacks. An event like this can trigger PTSD, and oftentimes it doesn't show itself immediately. It was almost a year before I was diagnosed and treated. So, just keep an eye on yourself and if you seem huge emotional swings in your life, seek counseling...

The most common problem is that when a roll over occurs and the engine continues to run even briefly the oil pick up can become uncovered and starve oil to critical parts. My wagon was rolled on it's side into a ditch and this killed the original motor. Sometimes oil and other fluids can flow into places they don't belong. A precursory inspection of all the critical fluids would be wise before trying to restart the car.

Good luck, hope the motor is indeed good. Otherwise the good news is used 2.2 motors are fairly inexpensive.

according to the manual, the fuel has a shutoff valve flapper for upside cases, to stop the engine. asssuming the engine did shut off while upside down, there should be no lack of oil damage. But, if the oil went into the engine in wrong locations, then it will have to be taken more seriously-like if the oil got into the intake, or etc etc......... make sure you do an oil change, filter change, etc, and if it starts okay, take it easy for a couple weeks time. good luck.

thanks for the replys. Upon closer inspection I have realized the the 93 is only a 2wheel drive , not awd like my 94. Damm. I would imagine that trying to change to 2 wd to a awd must be a big task to take to take on or is it?. also I seem to be lacking oil in the wrecked car. Is it probably in the intake? Do I remove it by pulling the plugs and cranking the engine over?. Just in case, will my awd engine hook right up to the 2wd tranny or do modifications have to be made? thanks ever so much. The only lingering effects of the accident is neck and shoulder pain that can only be dulled at thsi point by morphine tablets takenb by the handfull. Oh well, at least all my parts are still attached and I honestly think that the car saved me from either death or serious injury as i was doing @ 60 mph when I hit the ditch and rolled, the roof is flat except where the centre pillars are.

Engines are interchangeable - regardless of drivetrain.

Swapping to AWD is a decent amount of work, but not super difficult.
