here is my new intake i made yesterday / last night. i used some 3inch mandrule bent pipe i had, and welded a few elbows for the air bypass and the wastgate sol. then painted it black.
no i cant tell you how it works yet, the car is not drivable at the moment. but thanks to Blackbart. i am one step closer. (he just sent me some parts)
Subtle (normally aspirated engines suck):
05 Legacy GT Wagon with Cobb chip.
62 Alfa Romeo Spider- had a 1.6 L with 80 hp, now 2 L with 160 torque. Curb weight 2050 lbs.
93 Leg Twgn fmic, vf34, etc. ((sold))
I like to be able to blast through the puddles myself so I might not have gone with the cone filter way down in the fender like that but besides that I love it. Better then a coffee mug for sure.

I have mine in the same place... I really don't worry about puddles, you'd have to get into a puddle that's about 2 feet plus deep in order to cause a problem. I'm going to cut some louvers in the bottom of the fender well in order to help air getting in, as well as help drainage if I did ever get into a puddle like that. The filter doesn't reall draw from any place lower than the stock snorkel does, so your exposure to taking on water isn't really anything more.

I have an external intake that low and have never had an issue with water even in torrential sheeting downpours or noreasters. Yes, you are restricted to less than a foot of standing water, but it's best for the rack's sake not to do that anyway. Only time I've had minor issues is when I slam through snow banks and the intake would get clogged with snow. The car would still run well enough for highway speeds, but would be down on power and idle bad. Honestly, the wheels are more a PITA with collecting snow and getting horribly imballanced as a result than the intake. I can't run on the highway with the wheels partially packed.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
Anyone ever tried building a bypass valve like the one for AEM cold air intakes? I am sure it could be done. This would probably help any issues with water.
I'd guess as long as it's pre-turbo in the intake path, it should work just like it does on an N/A setup. I would not want to try it in the pressurized portion of the intake though.
