The bearing on the front of my PS pump is nearly shot. It's missing half the ball bearings and it tends to catch and cause the belt to slip. I have no idea how I should go about getting it out though.
I read Legacy777's powersteering pump rebuild post, and I got the bearing number and purchased it from a bearing distro. for 5 bucks. I see that the old bearing is pressed on and was wondering if the only way I could take it out would be to disassemble the entire pump. If I tear it all apart, can I put it back together with the old parts and the new bearing, or will I need the rebuild kit? I don't want to get myself in too deep without knowing what I need to do, so any advice would be a big help.

You can probably get away without the kit since the seal is behind the bearing.....but no guarantees

Yeah, you'll need to remove the back cover and pump stuff, so you can drive out the shaft from the pump housing. Once that's out, you can press the bearing off, and new bearing on.
Just make sure you keep track of how the little vanes are oriented. They have a wear pattern, and it may or may not be a big deal to put them back in the same way.

removed the pump and have it all apart but one piece. I can't get the plate that the rotor sits on out.

The plate on the right of the picture won't come out of my pump. I can get it to wiggle a little bit, but it won't pull out and I'm afraid to mess with it or I might gouge the surface of it. Is it just safe to hammer out the shaft or do I need to remove that piece and the bushing and o-rings behind it? I can't figure how to take it apart, any ideas?

Yeah, that plate can get a little wedged in there.
