Tuning the stock turbo legacy ECU
Moderators: Helpinators, Moderators
Guys, the ones with the secondary board covering the Mother is from Gen 1, Series 1 an 8bit ECU.
The one Nico has, without the daughter board is from Series 2, 16bit ECU.
Nico, I'm actually thinking of the trick you did, but what's the tuning range like? up to 20Psi on MAF, then the MAP values, any difference?
ECU will use MAF as reference points when car is switched to MAP.
So, what will happen when the there is difference? Will MAP be able to open up as well?

You are correct.

So what was the conclusion?
Is it possible or not to get the average stock ecu (with blue plastic cover thing) tuned at neetronics?
Gas and food would add a good $200 onto my tab if I drove ll the way there. That added to the $1250CAD Nico said he paid, all for a single tune, is making a standalone look very nice.

I am beginning to think that I should just drop the coin on the WRX AEM setup, and swap to WRX ECU connectors.
Looking around, it doesn't look like there's a really good option for us. Like Vica153, driving up to neetronics just isn't a viable option for me when I can get something that can do more (launch control, meth/nitrous injection, etc) and get it tuned locally (less than 2 hour drive to one of the best scoob tuners in the SE).
Supposedly, a company called GEMS had an awesome plug-n-play option for us, but when I contacted them, they said they didn't have anything for our application.

Can you explain a little more what the WRX AEM setup is, and what you're wanting to do.

It's AEM's plug-n-play stand-alone engine management system for the WRX.
It's fully programmable, so any difference in sensors could be taken care of through software.
I was planning on getting a set of WRX harness side connectors and swapping the pins from my Legacy into the correct spots on the WRX setup. That way I should, theoretically, be able to plug right in to the AEM.
I haven't checked to see if this would all work, but talking with someone that knows a ton about these systems has led me to believe that this would work.
Future plans also involve a twin scoll turbo, Phase I DOHC STI heads, and meth injection. Most of this won't be done until I win the lottery, though...

Well.....let me know what you find out regarding the AEM setup when you do some more homework.

What about doing the "universal" Aem setup that comes with the harness? or just swapping in a wrx harness. I have considered both options.

Very interesting posts especially regarding the eprom chip in the stock SS ECU.
There was a time when I had eprom chips for analyzing Satellite TV card info for "EDUCATIONAL Purposes only"....and there is a wealth of knowledge from the past in flashing EPROMs. As I recall, one of the eprom legs got cut to allow for data transfer and a wire and switch was installed between this leg to allow for open and closed transfer ability.
Maybe this should be explored in a new thread.
Hey Nick! Your posts are excellent as usual NWSG

The 1992 ECU pictured is the same hardware as the SVX ECU, but different firmware. Information about how to modify it can be found here (scroll down to post 704): http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthr ... 85&page=47Legacy777 wrote:Damn ip changed on the cable modem.

There's not really anything out there.
This is your best bet right now.

I am glad this thread got brought back from the dead. I lol'ed about 20 times reading it.Richard wrote:Don't blame Nico too much for his lack of mastering the Engilsh language. He's from Canada, eh. We all know how great their education system is. He probably speaks french or pygme or whatever else they speak up there too. My girlfriend used to write me love letters and I swear to god I needed a team of NSA cryptologists and the Hammurabi code to understand what the hell she wrote sometimes. Really. The shit was totally rediculous with all the shorthand, pictures, partial words, diagrams, and utter gobbledygook I wanted to slap her twice with a dictionary.
I mean, really, we get what Nico is saying most of the time. It just takes a little more effort to understand. 80% communication, 20% thought.
