Rear Main Seal Replacement - Maybe Now??

Post by feathersjr »

I'm about to swap my AT for a 5MT. The motor has 130 kmiles on it. No leak from the rear main seal now, but with the tranny out would be a good time to change it out. Not sure how long this seal is known to last?? My experience with this is limited, but my rule of thumb is to leave it alone if it isn't broke. I hate it when I create a problem when there wasn't one to begin with. I'm sure no one else has done that. :-D Feed back would be helpful.
Thanks

I'd personally replace it since you will have everything out. I did it with mine, and I had another 40k+ miles then you.

The only reason I wouldn't replace it is if it can't be done correctly. The seal must not be pushed in too far or it will leak.

I'm at my original with 157k miles, and it's not leaking a drop. I'm not touching it until it is.
