15" to 16"

I tried to search but couldn't find an exact answer. I am running 15" wheels with the norm tire size. I am looking into buying some 98 LGT wheels (16") and need to know if 205/50R-16 is the "correct" tire size for the increase in wheel size. I see some people on here are running 205/55's which doesn't sound right to me. please help

205/50 sounds right.

17" size would be 215/45 anyway.

Yes, 205-50/16 is about as close as you can get to stock size. 205/55 is a bit taller but fits fine. I have them, but if I were to buy new tires they would be 205/50. or 215/50 on a 7" wheel.

Miata.net has a great tire size calculator which is in the sticky. You can also go to tirerack and look up the actual width and diameter for specific tires.

Not sure if you know, but the LGT wheels are 6.5" wide. I wouldnt go over a 205/55 series, then it starts to get too squishy.

I'm running 205/50 r16 right now, and they fit good.

thanks for the info guys. do you think 205 is too wide? I'd like the tires to be pretty flush with the wheels and not stick out beyond the wheel. I was also thinking about getting bridgstone potenza's I have those now on my konigs and they are pretty good in my opinion. very good in the wet and even in the snow too.

I'm a real die hard fan of the Dunlop SP Sport 5000's. They perform like a mother but don't last as well. I used them on the last roo I had. I want to burn off the GT Qualifiers I have now just so I can get a set. Check out the ratings for the Sport 5000's at tirerack.com. Not too bad, even in the snow.

If you're looking for summer spec tires, I highly recommend the RE750s. Amazing performance and wear for the money.

ok well after looking at all the potenza tires (I hadent realized that there were like 20 different models of the potenza

) I currently have the G 009's. I will look into the re750's. What has been your experience with those Art?

Well, they kept the STi stuck to the road extremely well, even with unforgiving coilovers and lots of spirited driving. Basically, they're about a notch or so down from the S-03s and RE070s.

Also autocrossed on them a few times, rain and dry, with excellent results.

sounds good. I'll look into those then. I just picked up the wheels at lunch. Ended up paying $220 for all 4. They are in decent shape. A little brake dust, dirt and some minor curb damage on a couple of the wheels. Normal wear and tear looking stuff. Pics to come

Gang, I've got 7" wide rims ('00 RSs) with205/55/16s on them. Any one know what's the advantage to going 215/50? I do want as wide a stance as possible....Doing track and autocross...And will be purchasing tires soon. Lemme know! Thanks

BTW, Regaring tyres...Check out the review of the General Exclaim UHP in the reviews section. Great tires that evidently will save you some cash lira.

wider tire, lower sidewall, and the width matches up to the rim better. Plus it's a closer to stock overall diameter than 205/55. Only issue might be price and availability. I'd comparison shop 205/55, 205/50, and 215/50 in any case.

I have 205/50-16 Hankooks & they fit & look fine.

just ordered the S-03 pole possitions from tire rack for $438.84 including shipping. should be here by Friday at the latest. I'll have them mounted on Saturday. YAY!

I'm going to be getting a set of 205/50/16 BFG g-Force Sports to replace my Falken Ziex ZE-512s when they die.

it doesn't hurt that since I work at a tire shop I get them at 10% over cost and can mount and balance them myself. It keeps the price down to just over $300.
