ABS module leakin brake fluid:(

Post by NuwanD »

Hey guys i've noticed recently that my abs module is slowly leaking brake fluid. It's been going on for a couple of weeks now, and it is a very slow leak but a leak none the less. The leak is apparently from the large bolt on the front of the module (92-94 turbo) it looks like a 19mm or so size bolt. What is this bolt for? i'm assuming i can just remove the bolt clean up the surfaces and then put the bolt back in with some sealant or teflon on the threads. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I don't know anything about working on the inside of the ABS hydraulic unit except that you're not really supposed to... If I were you I'd suggest trying to get a replacement unit rather than trying to repair yours. It's not worth risking the operation of your car's brakes.

The factory service manual doesn't make any reference to that bolt or ever removing it. It's also possible that there are internal seals that are leaking.

If you do try to remove it, be careful, and take pictures for us please! :)

What kind of ABS system do you have, Bosch or Nippon? The Nippon one has two bleeders on top of the unit and the Bosch one doesn't.
