need some help (newbie)
hi everybody new to the site and hoping for some suggestions. i just bought a 94 legacy 2.2t with a blown automatic. my brother got me a used one that is the car now. but this one is starting to slip in 4th gear. am i always going to have trouble with the automatic? if i do a 5mt swap what year and out of what car do i use. if i keep the automatic should i raise the line pressure and if so how do i do that. sorry for all the questions any help would be great thanks. joe
The automatics on these cars tned to fail after a lot of mileage mainly because the fluid isn't changed regularly, and that there are a few inherent flaws in the transmission.
As for the swap, pretty much any manual trans up to the mid 90's would probably work. You must get the matching rear diff if you use any trans with a final drive ratio different then 3.900.
I've done a write-up on my awd & 5spd conversion. It should give you an idea of what is required for the swap. Check out the sticky in the top of this forum for more info.

The autos can be built up. There is a shift kit that can be installed to fix some of the issues. It's made by transgo.
Also, there are auto trans shops that do work on the valve body to improve shift speed, etc. However unless you're really wanting to spend some money, I'd probably pass.
