Car Starts up, Then dies! WTF MATE!

Post by pcv86 »

Ok im new here and this is my first post. I am also not a newb on forums, for all you smartass there that are gonna say you should have clicked on search, or googled it. Done it.

Heres my problem, i just bought a legacy off of one of your follow members. Project_legacy. I brought it home and planned on replacing the o2 sensor and the brake master cylinder. It start giving me hard starts when i got home. So in detail, when i turn the ignition. The car starts like a champ, then idles for a few seconds. All a suddenly it just dies after 5 seconds. Even when i have the foot on the peddle keeping the rpms at 2500 rpms. it dies within 5 seconds. My geuss is that its a electrical problem, maybe a sensor is sending a msg to the ecu to turn off the motor. I dont know :\ i work on hondas, this is my first time working on a subaru.

Help me im desperate. :)

Oh yeah can someone explain to me the effects of a failed coolant temp sensor?

Coolant Temp Sensor makes the car not start really well. But, once it's started, it's usually all right.

You're describing what seems like to me a dead MAF. My car acted the exact same way when the MAF was toast.

What was wrong with it?

my solution would have been the maf, but someone said that already so i did not post it.

i think your smart ass post here is uncalled for.

that and the fact that you did not post what you did to fix it indicates a non- team member, which is not what a forum is all about.

LOL, funny funny funny. Your right it was the MAF sensor. I never knew subarus had so many sensors that were important to the engine's functions. On honda theres not that many sensors that prove valuable for a car to run right.

I did drop a smart-ass comment, my bad on my behalf. I feel like a hypocrite.

I only problem im running into is the excess smoking.. it doesnt smell like its burning to much fuel, and it has a blue tint to it so theres a mixture of oil. The o2 sensor is not installed yet (im waiting for it in the mail) Its a new bosch o2 sensor i found for 60 bucks. i found it off a part replacement website. Hopefully that will cure the excess smoking. My geuss is that its mostly coolant, i checked the turbo for any shaft play and theres non what-so-ever. but maybe theres a chance that its leaking coolant through one of its seals.

So far so good with the subaru, im a honda fan and im new to subaru and the site. Its fun to drive thats for dam sure. :) :) :)

I've never been much of a honda fan. Today I had an asian kid in an integra next to me on the interstate and he kept revving at me for about 2 miles before he exited.

Not to be a downer here but an O2 sensor dosent fix oil burning on any cars I've ever herd of, is there excess oil on the manifold side of the turbo? To me thats what indicates a leaking turbo not excess shaft play. If you're right and the smoke is mostly coolant the exhaust should smell sweet and be mostly white in color. Again i would first check to see if there is excess moisture/coolant on the manifold side of the turbo and work your way deeper into the engine to fix the problem

welcome to the boxer side of the force lol

Damn there are alot of poeple from WA on here it seems lol

What do u mean by the manifold side? Looking at the turbo theres no leaks exteriorly. The downpipe side or so call manfiold side is dry. I pull the charge pipe, and intake to inspect for oil. Dry also :\

There is a valve that releases oil into the intake manifold.. whats that called again?

Oh yeah the burning is a sweet smell, gets me high.

lol the dark side, Yeah theres a bunch of ricers over in the honda section. They give honda a bad name. But you can do amazing things to them. Funny thing is i had a 92 honda accord, with a whole DSM turbo set up in it. Raced my friends Subaru WRX. Kept up with it until i blew a piston ring :( . But now i got a integra with goodies below the hood. looks stock, stock muffler, but v-tec screams like crazy.

I love all cars in general, whatever i get my hands on ill work on it.

yea sorry I ment intake manifold side, or like you said charge side, the valve your talking about is the PCV valve and it just vents excess crank case pressure into your intake (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) which also means that some oil comes in as well.

Yea I'm not a huge honda fan but i do apreciate the tastefull ones, and the 10.2 second CRX i saw at the drags last weekend lol. its just all the bodykits and retardedly loud exhausts you see and practicly EVERY civic that turns me off, oh and i'm not into the whole FWD thing eather, but like I said whatever makes you happy, your integra looks sweet too.
