I finally got another mountain bike.

After 6 years of professional bike mechanicism, I gave it all up and sold all my bikes. 2 years later, I am back into it.

I just picked up a Rocky Mountain Trailhead, and I'm pretty excited.


It's got everything I'd consider a requirement. Hydraullic disc's, 9-speed, and relatively low weight.

Sure is far-cry from my 49lb downhill bike, but it'll do :)

Back to my cross country roots, and get my ass back into shape too!

Who else rides?

Rocky Mountain Vertex, upgraded Sram shifter or whatever they call it.

Disc brakes on a mtb are the best things since.... Especially in the wet. :-D

I go out and have fun with mine all the time. It's almost as fun as getting the rear of the subie to slide out :)

way to get back into it man! did you not have a bike at all for 2 years? I think I'd go crazy. good choice on the new ride too.
I havent gone mountain biking in around 3 weeks but I ride my 20" nearly every day. sold my DH bike last december and am taking this season of collegiate DH off. got 20th at nationals in division1 DH last year. I'll be getting something sick for next summer's mountain states cup where I'll be running expert DH. I'm thinking something like a demo 9 or maybe an IH sunday.
trailbike=1999 giant AC-1 with 8sp lx from 1996 in back, 1998 xt 22-32-bashring in front, hayes hydro 6" in rear, cabel hayes 8" in front, z1 dropoffs, 2.5" michelins, sun ringle wheels, pretty good workout up the hills. :wink:

bmx=2002 S&M dirtbike classic, pitchforks, slam bars, odyseyy hazard lites, profile race cranks, animal tires. cracked frame, rewelded, cracking a little again.

My GT hardtail (which wasn't very nice) got stolen about a year ago. I've been on a couple of rides on borrowed bikes but really need a new one.

I'm leaning towards a Trek Fuel 80. It seems to have pretty good components for the price.

my Trek 7000 hardtail (1999 ZX model in rare gold/copperyellow color) was stolen about 3 years ago. I didnt have the cash, or the heart to buy another expensive bike after that. I had taken it out at least once every week for quite sometime.

This summer, I picked up a really nice Trek1100 roadbike used, on Craigslist from the original owner. It had been sitting for quite a while, so the tires were dryrotted and tubes were crusty. I put new tires, tubes, tire liners, new pump etc on it. It is a very good bike now.

Wish I could find the MF that stole my trek 7000, i have a few words i need to yell into his head before i do somethin worse to him. Still hope someday my old trek shows up on Ebay, I will file a stolen item report thru Ebay and try and get it back.

Bikes can be a blast to ride, especially downhill and fast, in the mountain outback trails. Glad you got back into it. many memories to have soon.

I used to have a Specialized Stumpjumper (02). Broke it, got an 05 Stumpjumper PRO frame (never a produciton release. White with black chippolini stripes). That was a 20 lb even bike. Then I turned it into an 18lb single speed before selling it.

I had a Banshee Scream as my downhill bike. Marz. Shiver (prototype 05 pre-production model), Fox RC rear, Hayes Purple 8" Hydro's (best brakes ever!). Protaper bars, Raceface stem, seat post, and Northshore FS cranks (broke some Kooka cranks). I also ran Kenda's prototype Blue Groove and Nevegal tires (got them pre-production for demo purposes). Nevegal in the rear in 2.5" and BG up front, same dimensions. Some of the best tires I've ever ridden (better than the Michelin 2.8's I had). I also had a Hadley rear hub. That thing was the tits. 10mm bolt through, and a ridiculous pawl count (108 clicks per revoloution). It was almost silent and instant engagement.

I loved that bike. It sold for more than my 95 Legacy did. If I could have it back, I would.

I bought myself a new Haro Nyquist One a couple weeks ago. I haven't ridden in forever and felt the need to get another bike. First time to the the local BMX track I crashed. Haven't been back yet. Feels good be back to pedal power though :-D

Dude, i just got a new mtb too. '06 Marin nail trail. Really dig the hydraulic opposed piston brakes (onefingerstoppingomg!) And wish i could figure out if i can change to a stiffer spring in the fork. My fat ass really makes the front end dive under heavy braking.


Already have 2 miles of vertical feet in 1.5 weeks ownership :grin: GPS rocks.



Sad to say, but i like the handling of my old schwinn homegrown better. I'm halfway considering swapping all the components on to the old frame.


Also have a cherry '84 SR Pro road bike.

Yes, you can get different inserts for the Black Super.

I believe they come with "medium" springs unless specified otherwise upon order. If you weigh 200lbs, you need the firm springs. 220, you need the extra firm. Over 250, get a different fork ;).

Haha, my bike's front suspension makes the nose dive when braking even with my light ass on it.

Up to now ive just been riding with the compression turned waaay up :)

Ummm, yeah. I've got a 2005 Target Special. Full suspension, aluminum frame, pretty sweet :lol:

Its my gas saver. School and back is all it does. Got a set of studded tires on ebay for cheap, so I rock it in the winter too. But she's rusty now. Oh well. It was only $100 new.

Unintentionally ended up with a v. agile mtb.

Couple of years ago bought a full suspension cross-country. Took the old hard tail and set it up for my wife. To make it comfortable I put on a steeper stem and bars with a 4-inch lift, as well as a soft saddle and the seat post suspension.

Then the trails I ride in the rain forest are pretty wet during the winter. Not wanting to mess up all those bushing on the fs bike I used the old one with the comfortable set up.

Loved it --sold the fs and bot a new hard tail and set it up the same way.

Riding more up right reduces the polar moment of inertia so that it is agile :-D and with this --comfortable :D
