vf23 turbo subaru in jet boat??

Post by rwcoop »

I have an rs legacy engine in a jet boat. Am just wondering what the best turbo would be to suit it.
The engine is direct drive to the unit and max revs is about 5400 as this is most efficient for the jet unit.
I had a vf8 turbo on it and went well but then tried the smaller vf10 turbo and was considerably better, with far better acceleration.
Max boost is not a prob, but just want max acceleration and power through the range. Anyone know much about the vf turbos. I have a vf23 to try but from what ive been reading it may be too big. I dont really want to boost any more than about 12 psi. should I be getting a smaller vf24 or vf30?? or will these be no better than the vf10. look forward to answers

I am going to bump this over to the turbo forum.

And I would think that you are correct in your logic. A vf24/28/29 or a VF30/34 would be better for your application. All of those turbos spool faster than the VF8/12 or the VF23...
