Testing the waters: Maybe selling the RS-RA longblock...

Post by Matt Monson »

I am losing my motivation to rebuild this engine from the ground up now that I have a perfectly good '96 WRX Ej20g sitting on the stand. The engine is currently completely torn down and ready to be rebuilt. The bearings actually appear to be in very good condition, and I regret ever taking the thing apart. There is a little scoring from rod knock on one cylinder.

For those not familiar with this engine, it's a 1991 RS-RA STi prepped engine. It's the 749th engine STi ever built and started it's life in a BC Legacy. The heads have been hand ported by STI and the pistons are forged. The crank was dynamically balanced with rods and flywheel, and the crank is signed by the technician at STi. A search will reveal pictures of the teardown in the engine forum.

What I would include is the complete engine consisting of case, crank, rods, pistons, heads w/cams, rocker assemblies and gears. idler gears, water pump and oil pump are included. Also included is the intake manifold TB,with fuel rails, but no injectors. All the various sensors like IAC that go to the manifold are included. It's pretty much a complete longblock, that is in pieces.

So, what's this worth to someone? Lowballers will just be laughed at. I have no need to sell this engine. If I sell this, I want it to go to a good home with someone who will rebuild it properly and put it into a Legacy where it belongs. If I don't get a reasonable offer, I will rebuild it at my leisure and put it in my own '91 sometime next year...

That is for sure a cool motor, it must go in Legacy, I agree. I think the cylinder heads are the best part though :D .

I am EXTREMELY interested in this block.

Would you consider $1000+shipping to be a lowball? I honestly dont know what its worth.

All Pm's replied. I don't consider $1000 a lowball, but it's less than I am willing to let it go for...
