I'm an Idiot...but it'll be O.K.
I've been racking my brain for 2 months trying to figure out why my car doesn't have any spark after I did a HG replacement. Although I'm new to Subaru's(and they rock...I like mine more everyday) it has been quite sometime since I rebuilt any motor at all. (close to 8 years) So I went out and started going thru my rebuild on the Subie and figured out that I'm basically an IDIOT, or at least just forgetful because I shoulda known better. When I put my Cam Pulley's on I put them on as marked L and R but from the front of the car not as from inside of it.....You can all have a good laugh I deserve it. Anyhow I swapped them and shazam it fired right up. But I keep getting a knock sensor flash on the CE light and it seems to have a miss to it at varying times, mostly under medium load. Like if your cruising at about 45 and want to accelerate to 65 or if you drop to 25 and then want to speed back up. Sense the knock sensor has to do with timing I'm gonna assume that it is the reason for that problem. But it also seems to have a hesitation (feels like it's coming from the Transmission) when manuevering slowly like in a parking lot, it kinda feels like a 4 wheel drive truck does when you cut the trucks wheels all the way....I understand the Subie would do it if I cut the wheels hard but it does it when they are cut slightly. I didn't get to drive the car much before I tore it down, because I traded for it, because it had an overheating problem, but I never noticed it before the tear down. So anyone got any ideas??? Or want to share their own IDIOT stories.

have you replaced the knock sensor? I've heard the knock sensor causes a lot of the hesitation problems in the early subaru's. I'm not sure about the misfires, but as I found out recently, using anything other than ngk spark plugs can cause problems. This is pretty basic advice, you may be beyond my knowledge but someone should be able to help you out.

Thanks for the Info...I learned a little late on the NGK's I already got the Bosch Plat 4's in it now and will be changing soon. I don't think that the plugs would be causing the knock sensor to flash, but stranger things have happened...I talked to Frank aka Blackbart about a knock sensor and he doesn't have a good one. Advanced auto said they can't get it. So monday I'll call the dealer unless someone has one here has one that I could buy.
Thanks
Scott

oh no, another bosch plat 4 victim. Yeah, I think anyone who has used the Plat 4's has had misfiring problems. I had trouble with autolite plats just recently, switched to ngk v-powers and bam problem solved. Try replacing the plugs first, then if you still have knock sensor issues you can look online for an OE knock sensor. I think autopartswarehouse.com has them for $60-80. I bet the plugs are the problem though.
Heres a link since it doesn't show up when you just search by vehicle.
