bring tools when you go to pick it up. Never know what might happen on the drive home, also dont forget to bring cds.
I rode the bus 23 hours to DLC's house to buy his wagon. I forgot to bring cds.

It's a 1964 Alfa Romeo Spider--originally with a 1300cc 85hp and 4MT

This one is a beaut with a 150hp 2L and 5MT + lsd.

Weight at 2150 lbs.- :-D --hope I get it

That's a little more difficult nowadays if you're flying to pickup the car. But still a good idea.

well I have checked a bunch of tools and crazy looking pieces of metal on planes before, you just cant carry that stuff on. not even a small wrench. which is kinda ironic considering some of the other stuff that you can.

$US 40,100.---It was perfectly stock looking and "built"--but a dealer knew how to handle the final trade.

Been wanting to buy a gray one(rare-most Italian red) for years. Finally can handle it.

On Friday morning talking to one of the guys in the Alfa club mentioned that if I was lucky enough to find one I'd force a 2L engine in. Then we both noted that a limited slip would really be needed.

Parts now are readily available for doing the swap.

For the first time looked in eBay and there it was with+++.

Yeah you can check them......but I absolutely hate checking luggage. Call it a product of too much traveling.

I actually picked up a 97 impreza OBW yesterday on ebay. It's in Chicago. I'm flying up to Jersey for work stuff tomorrow, and then flying to Chicago on Thursday to pick it up and drive it back to Houston.

It's 1000 miles or so....but shouldn't be too bad.

I'm dealing with that now. I'm technically covered under my current insurance plan for 30 days, even if I don't add it. However I can't get a temporary tag in texas with out proof of insurance. So I have to add the car to my policy to get proof, so I can get a temp tag.

However since I leave tomorrow morning to go to jersey, I'm going to have to try and get a tag in illinois. I don't know if they need the same proof texas does, but either way, that's probably the way to handle it.

If the registration was still good on the car, I wouldn't have had to worry about that, and I would have just brought my current proof of insurance. The only catch is that even though I would have been covered, a cop might not agree....so it'd probably be best to just add it to your policy.

Hell I drove my 94 all the way back from LA with the dude's PA plates still on it. Every time we got pulled over we just handed them the bill of sale and told them we didn't have tools to take off the plates. Figured PA plates were better than no plates. And if they know you just bought the car they won't hassle you about the insurance if you tell them it's covered by your policy. Remember, cops have to deal with insurance companies too.

The real trick, though, is to not get pulled over.

hehe, I think DLC loaned me his plates for my trip home, but I was planning on just not getting pulled over.
I have traded cars for dealerships and forgotten to bring plates before and made it 1000's of miles.

I got pulled over for speeding about an hour from Houston....but the cop was cool. I tried to get a temp plate in IL, they wouldn't give me one because the car has a CO title.

The cop let me off with a warning for the speeding. I had been driving for about 15 hours, and just wanted to get home. He even said I must have been on the road for a while.

I just picked up a legacy the other night... used my plates and drove it with no inspection, registration, insurance ...

not getting pulled over is, in fact, the key.
