new oil leak

Post by ericS2the6 »

car has been real good with oil leaks for the 5+ years ive had it. wouldnt lose a drop between intervals (5k syn.)

now all of sudden im getting small spots on my driveway and oil level slowly going down. oil spots seem directly below the throttle cables or in that area (basically back of engine slightly on driver side).

under the car crossmember is oily. searched and came up with rear main or separater plate (my 93 has a crappy plastic one right?). anybody believe it could be anything else to look for?

also is the procedure roughly the same to replace either the main seal or separater plate ie the trans needs to be dropped? if so would it be good to replace both even if it is just one causing the problem?

also if its the separater plate, can i replace the plastic with a metal so this doesnt happen again or can i only use a new plastic one?

thanks,

-Eric

Yup...gotta drop the tranny. The procedure is the same, and yes I'd do both while you're back there, and yes you can put on a metal sep plate.
