Finally got around to restoring my factory '94 wheels

Post by magicmike »

Well I spent about 2-3 hours on Saturday cleaning up all of the corrosion and curb rash on the orignal wheels and although my LGT wheels are nice I have summers on them and I'm going to get either snows or throw my re009's on these wheels for winter use only. I descided to try a gum metal grey finish since I've always liked that color. might be too dark on a white car but I'll see what it looks like and maybe paint them silver next year if I dont like it. here are some pics of them before paint, after a few light coats and then after paint.

what do you think?

Thanks guys!, I'm a little worried that they will look too dark on the car but I'll have to see. I'll get some pics up when I get them on. I know that when I got my LGT wheels they were much brighter silver and really made the car look better. Darker might make the whole car look "dirty" or something.

Looks great!
I'm interested to see how the paint will hold up to (especially) winter road usage.

did you use duplicolor wheel paint? i've had VERY good luck with that paint, especially if you use the clear coat on top of the color. i think the grey will look awesome on the white, if anything it will look dark and mysterious

thank you all for the nice words. if they werent winters I would have filled in the imperfections with some thinned out bondo and primed before painted. I think they are good for some winter beating! Thanks again, its nice to read some possitive things on the board again.

Hey Mike, what was your process for those wheels? Did you sandblast them or just take steel wool to them, or what?

Ryan, not I need to buy winter tires within a few weeks. I'm about to drop 2k on a tv tomorrow so i need to wait. Mark I used a drill with an attachment that works for paint stripping, its not a wire wheel those suck. I'll take a pic of it later and get it on. I'll do a little write up for you guys later, I need to grab dinner.
