The engine alone 'could' be worth that. And if you can drive it home, everything else is gravy.

Well, I went and looked at it. Drove 2 1/2 hours from ohio to see how this thing was. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time.

The damage wasn't fixed right. The passenger side got different doors that have bad rust damage on the inside of them (both).
rear quarter panel has big crease still in it. Front fender is still the original but they pushed out most the dents and filled in with bondo. It could use a new fender still. Front bumper was repainted along with the doors and fender. The bottom radiator support was rusted out, so the radiator and fans just flopped there and the wiring hung down. The repaint where the damage was done was definately a DIY job. Looked pretty bad. The rear bumper is also a different one (it's silver). Interior is pretty dirty, seats have some burn holes in them here and there. Tint needs to come off. Sunroof was good though.

Can ran fine, trans was solid too. Car surged under boost so I'm guessing there's a bad solenoid. Going down the road, the car clicked, maybe bad axle? Power steering pump leaks and kinda steers hard.

My biggest concern with the car was the motor. After I got back from driving it a little smoke was coming out the scoop (looked kinda funny actually) The valve covers had oil on the bottom half, but I couldn't tell if the smoke was from around the turbo or down on the heatshield. I looked in the exhaust and there wasn't any oil coming out there, so i dunno. Smoke was definately coming from around the turbo area though. I ran the car in D Check mode and only got a code 35, no big deal there.

I had the trailer and was ready to buy. I offered 750, but the guy wouldn't even call his son (who he was selling it for) for less than 850.

I guess still not a bad deal if you just wanted it for parts. The listing on craigslist was very misleading with the Or Best Offer and them saying the damage was repaired. If I didn't already have one project to fix, I may have got this one, but it needed a lot of work. I don't mean to sound negative, but I just want to point out what's all wrong with it. As a base it's pretty solid, but you'd have a hard time trying to repair everything for a clean looking car. Mechanically it seemed fine cept for minor stuff (unless the oil was worse than it looked), but my biggest complaint was the outside. You'd need to redo the front bumper, pass. side fender, both doors, rear panel, and repaint rear bumper while you're at it.

Sorry for the long post, but maybe I'll help somebody out.

You saved someone else a lot of trouble, or gave them a reason to make the trip. I commend you for taking the time to make the trip and report.

Well thanks for spotting it on Craigslist. I try to keep my eyes open too, but I'm glad you caught it. It was a fun drive anyway, me and my buddy had a good time.

On another note, the guy's dad has kind of a junkyard going, had 2 sweet non running Honda 600's. We could'a fit 2 of them on the trailer and built a sweet sleeper car!

What is a Honda 600? I have a 1983 Honda V45 Magna with 10,400 miles on it if anyone wants a cheap old, fast Honda.to take home No rust on the pipes, either.

Well, the lady that you talked to was apparently the kid's dad's girlfriend. She was the one who listed it. They haven't used the car in like 2 years since it was damaged he said.
I guess a lot of people had looked at it, but I think they all came to the same conclusion as me, lol. very misleading
With as strict car laws as PA has, it would take a lot of work for it to be reregistered there. I guess the tint has to come off, boost would have to be fixed, needs tires, code 35 fixed, needs new muffler, just a lot of small stuff. I think an out of stater would be the only one to buy it and fix it, either that or part it out.

I suppose I could buy it and part it out if anyone was interested and looking for stuff. I just want the transmission, so if there was other things to be desided would offset my cost.

what most want

Post by bepa »

the 5 MT is what most are looking for. yes parting it out should recover the cost. I too want the 5 MT. I could use some of the other parts but tranny is what I want. don't have 900 for now. three weeks ago I would have got it.

I'll keep an eye open for a while. maybe. Daniel
