M90 supercharger

Post by Binford »

I think this may be directed mainly at Doug due to his experience with his M62, but what do you guys think about running an M90 on my SS? Initially I want to compare the drivability and fun level (not worried about peak hp or quarter mile times) between my TD04 @16 psi and the M90 at whatever psi it'll end up being with stock pullies (5-6 psi?). The M90 should flow somewhere relitively close to the same cfm, I think. I don't know the flow rate of my turbo.

I would then like to twin charge it with the TD04 running wastegate boost along with the M90. I don't know what the combined cfm would be, but I'm really not looking for more than I'm currently running without getting EM and fuel mods. I'm really just curious how it would work. Opinions?

The reason behind all this is I've argued that turbos are better (for what I'm after anyways) for quite some time now, but I've never had a supercharged vehicle ever. I'd like to be able to compare. Plus I'm getting one for basically nothing. 8)

OK, according to this
http://www.automotive.eaton.com/product ... rs/M90.asp
max cfm flow will probably be 400-500 cfm, depending on the rpm it ends up spinning with stock pullies.

I can't really find any definate flow ratings for my turbo, but I did find it listed somewhere (can't remember, but I wrote it down) as 385 cfm. That doesn't tell me whole lot, but if it's true I will NOT be twin charging my SS. WAY too much air! But the M90 should be fun!

Ideally, I'd like to fab up a custom intake manifold, possibly with an air to water intercooler built in. I'm not sure how I could use my TMIC I currently have installed, and I'm not going FMIC due do the "off road" conditions I play in most of the time.

Turbos are quite a bit more efficient at higher bost levels. A lot of factory boosted V8s (like Mustang Cobra) ditch the supercharger for turbos when they get to higher hp levels. Same thing with 350Zs. The aftermarket supercharger setup nets you a decent gain, but to go big, they need t3h turb0z.

Compared to the Mercedes M62, the M90 is BIG. And it has a hell of a snout.

The M62 makes 12-14 psi at max rpm range. The M90 should be good for 15-19 psi.....maxed out.

Well I picked up the M90. It's been freshened up with new bearings even, I hadn't realized that when I initially talked with the guy. It has all bracketry to bolt up to a Honda! And yes, this thing is BIG! I've got a plan in my head on how I'll mount it and be able to retain my TMIC, although it is a bit redneck. But if you liked the pipes through Doug's hood, just wait till you see this! I prbably won't get started on any fabrication until next weekend, as I should have a brand new chop saw then as payment for some fab'n for my boss. I can't wait to get this on!

I have moved my alternator to where my AC pump used to be and fabbed up some of the front bracketry to support the M90. I couldn't wait until I got a chop saw, so I just used a cutoff wheel. I may have this done by the weekend. :-D

Well I've been a bit too busy with other things to continue working on this lately, but I hope to get back to work on it this week. I haven't had power steering since I moved my alternator so I definately have motovation to get on with it!
