on rebuilt driveshafts

I have purchased two driveshafts (FWD) for my wagon. The first was for the passenger side, and it was new. When I went in a few months later for the driver side, all they had were rebuilt driveshafts. ("they" = O'Reilly's)
I told the guy behind the counter that I would rather have a new one if they could order it. He was not as eager about the extra work of ordering it as he was about convincing me that it was just as good - that it even had the same lifetime warranty.
I bought it. 45 minutes later, with the rebuilt driveshaft in, I pull out to the end of the driveway on my way back with my old shaft to get the core charge back. I turn the wheel and hear "click-click-click...." from the rebuilt driveshaft. I was pretty pissed. I told the guy behind the counter that the new (not rebuilt) driveshaft I had bought has been just fine, but the rebuilt one is already shot. What was his response? "I'm too tired to care."
I got the core charge for my old shaft and left before doing something to get a free room at the county jail. They still will not do anything about the driveshaft.
If you have an O'Reilly's nearby, or are considering a rebuilt shaft, re-consider.

You're in bumfuck arkesaw where every redneck behind an autoparts store counter thinks he's a goddamn certified mechanic.

If you wanted a new, subaru original part, go to the dealership, that's the only place you can get them.

cant' say I would expect any better from a goddamn auto parts store clerk. Then again, I've never had anything but problems out of autozone, and nothing but praise for Advanced Auto and O'Reilly.

FYI: autoparts stores sell many replacement parts as remanufactured parts. AKA if you paid a core charge on your way out the door, it's a reman part, but generally these are OEM parts or parts made to OEM spec which -are- just as good if you buy the right brand.

The only way to get a new part is to go to the dealership.

terms is not driveshaft, its axle -or- CV axle

driveshaft: output shaft from rear casing of transmission which goes to rear differential.

Damn. You're totally right. I'm not sure why I was thinking driveshaft.

Unlike another poster though, not only can I spell the names of states I'm not from, but the ones I know nothing about as well. Scuzzy, if you want to see bumfuck, Arkansas, I can take you there. Just as in any state, it does exist, but this isn't it. Save your insults for some place you know about.

If it has a lifetime warranty, take the reman'd back and get another one.

I have had an issue or two with reman'd axles, but overall they've been pretty good. I got mine from cvaxles.com though.

On a similar topic, I bought a reman'd power steering pump from one of the autoparts stores here in town, and it felt worse, (binding/rough feel) then the old one I was taking off my car for the very same reasons. Needless to say I took it back, and told them no thanks. That's when I rebuilt my own power steering pump.

This one will need to be replaced before long. It clicks even taking straight off under normal driving.
I would rather use a Subaru axle or check the source you mentioned, cvaxles.com, than run the chance of getting another one that will need to be replaced - even if it is "free" by its warranty.
