Im working on installing a new CTS (PITA) and while taking the intake off, this nifty little plastic peice broke in a few places. Im still working on taking off the part that connect to the block. What does it do, do I need it, how do I fix it?!

um you can either try and find another one from another member or a junk yard. Or you can replace it with a 3/4 hose and then T it off to the PCV and intake.

Does it acutally connect to the crankcase or does it just sit on it?

yeah there is a vent directly off the top, back, right of the motor seen in this picture just below the compressor outlet. There is also another one, only found on the EJ22T on the top front middle of the block just above the block stamp connecting to both heads FYI.

I meant does it get secured down to the block, or does it just sit on the hole? It looks like there is a hose clamp down there, but I cant get to it without basically tearing everything down.
Can I leave it open? What would happen if I did?

It has spring clamps both from the block to the hose and the hose to the F pipe. That line goes both to the pcv on the intake manifold and the per-turbo post MAF inlet. If that is open it will be a vac leak. I would fix it before driving much.

yep.
rubber hose attached to block, about 1.25 inches or so long, and that hose attaches to this "F" piece pvc crank ventilation pipe. The picture you posted, the bottom of your PVC pipe is broken too, not just the top portion. So, get a new pipe, $12 from the dealer, and get the new hose. reuse your existing spring clamp. Your old connector hose will come out in many many glass like pieces.

BTW, the reason your is broke at the bottom is due to heat. The heat basically turns the rubber connector to "glass-like" and then it breaks apart, then the heat causes the "F" piece to get brittle.........,.

Im working on tracking down that plastic peice so I can get a new one. I wanted to drive the car down to CT for the holiday, but Im not sure if Ill beable to or not. What I was thinking for a temp fix was just connecting the PCV to the intake with a hose and using another hose on the crankcase vent hole so air can still get out, but not let dirt in.
Would anyone happen to have a part number for the piece.
Also. I cant really get to the clamps on the crankcase vent since the tabs are facing the turbo, causing the turbo to be in the way.

pm sent with part numbers.
also, you can drive the car without that part on for a while, or with it broken. Loss of power, decreased performance, hesitation, and general poor performance will exist. Fix the part, and WOW, you will have an amazingly responsive car unless you have other things wrong too.
probably time to get a new knock sensor, clean the MAF sensor, and other tune up things to make list of things to get done.
