Do they make an ecu performance ship for the 92 legacy sport? And if so, where would i find one

Not sure that there is a chip per say. But if your not excited about buying a stand alone or piggy back this might help.

I would suggest finding a second ECU in a junkyard to have around while you send yours out.

Our ECUs are unchippable...

So you will either have to trick it, piggyback it, or go to a standalone.

Standalone will cost you the most time and money but give you more control over tuning = more fast
Piggyback will give you a lot of control, cost less, and be easier to deal with because you dont need to map everything incl radiator fans, etc.
Tricking it is cheap and almost worthless.

Ok new question to add to my old thread. I just want to get more info on the differences between the ecu tuning styles.
Is standalone a specially tuned ecu that you put in place of the stock ecu, just with added sensors and such?
And piggy back goes in place after the stock ecu to tune every thing?
And what exactly is tricking the ecu?

I ask all this because i know in my Vw i used to own, there were places that you could send your ecu off to , that would reprogram it to tuned specs and then mail it back. Are there places to do that for our ecus as well? I aplologize for my repeated questions, the stlye of tuning in these cars is slightly different than the german cars i am used to

A stand alone basically replaces the function of the stock ECU.

A piggy back alters the sensor signals coming and going to the ECU to trick it into doing something it wasn't originally designed to do.

The whole car needs to be there to be tuned. It's not something you can send your ECU to them, and have them "stage 1" it.

Or at least that's what was told to me when I talked with them a while back.

I was already considering a boost controller. How high can the boost be set on a car with nothing more than intake mods?

A non-intercooled car "CAN" be turned up a bit, I ran mine at 10 psi...wouldn't say it was to smart, and I definitley wouldn't go past 10.

An intercooled car can increase boost up to somewhere around 14-15 psi (not sure of the exact number - Anyone?) with out cutting fuel on the stock ECU. Past the cut level you would need a FCD (Fuel Cut Defender)..there is instruction on how to build one around here I think or some nice engine manageent could take care of cut. I personally would wait to crank the boost until after you get engine management and a good tune...thats just me tho.

If you do decide to get a boost controller DEFINITELY get a boost gage (if you don't have one already)! Summit has a nice cheap one. Something like $20-$30? I had one...it did its job and had nice big numbers.

I see alot of people using saab intercoolers on their cars. Does that require alot of fab work? Is there a write up on how to make it work for our cars?

One person who has done it.

My personal preference is for FMIC (front mount intercoolers). But again, thats just me. Top mount would probably be the easiest for someone who owns a true SS (having the hood scoop to start out with is a big help for TMIC)

i was looking at the front bumper and wondering if there is enough space to squeeze an intercooler in there. Any write ups on anyone who has done that? I'm just not a fan of cluttering up the engine bay like the saab intercooler does

FMIC's take a lot of planning. When I get ready to do my 91 I am going to pull the front of the car apart and take measurements. Since your location says AZ I doubt your into getting rid of your AC...but there is a thread around here that talks about replacing the AC condensor with an FMIC....thats probably what I'll be doing. But if you want AC and FMIC your best bet is proabably just below the beam. There are a couple people running them there. Use the search link up top of this page and see what you can find. A lot of people tell the IC's that they use...and you can generally get a good idea of what you have to do from there awsome pictures.

Hmmm, well i did some more digging and found a couple TMIC kits for the impreza that i would make work that are alot better looking that the saab one, just gotta make sure it will fit

Keep in mind there is always AWIC as well. Take a look at the search link. There is a lot of information there. It can keep you busy for hours. Gets ya a bit excited as well.
