Died at driving speed

Hey guys im new to the forum. all of my immediate family drive liberty's we're in Australia. my cousin was driving her 1991 Ej22 with the ac on full speed today a hot day and the car just stopped while she was doing 60kmh not sure what that is in mph the car restarted fine like nothing had happened and has continued running fine with the ac on for the rest of the day. Anyone got any ideas? :(

Did the car just lose power and die? Or did it stumble?

If I had to guess, I'd say it was the MAF sensor. I had similar issues with my Legacy. I would lose power when driving down the road. Sometimes I could put it in neutral, and rev the engine. Other times it would just die.

I chased the problem for over a year until one day it acted up real badly, and left a code in the ECU for the MAF sensor.

I second a broken MAF.

Apparrently it lossed power and died it may or may have not stubbled (sorry guys she is a girly girl as long as the wheels turn she's happy)
Are the USA legacy's with a MAf the same as a Australian liberty with an Airflow sensor/ meter?
I was trying to get a good answer out of google too much confliction.
P.S I drive a 2006 2.0R Liberty sedan

I'm not sure if the first gen US legacies & first gen AUS liberties have the same MAF

In the US, there were two MAF types, a black plastic JECS MAF, and a silver metal Hitachi MAF. All the turbo legacies had the hitachi MAF's. The 90-91 manual trans non-turbo legacies also used the hitachi MAF. The 90-91 auto trans non-turbo, and all 92-94 non-turbo legacies used the JECS MAF.

For the non-turbo cars, I'd suspect the MAF's are the same as the US cars, however for the turbos, they may be different.

Hey guys, seasons greetings.
I replaced the maf sensor yes we have the jecs on in our non turbo in Australia.
The car started better when I changed it and my cousin claims it drives better then it ever has. :-D
While I was there I decided to check for codes anyway and I found that the 02 sensor is open circuit :roll:
That explains the poor fuel economy then I'll do that the next time she visits.

Glad to help...a broken MAF is one of the worst things ever.
