EJ22 in a 05 WRX, what do you guys think?
i drove my 91 ss for at least 3 solid years moded and with no problems, untill the tranny went south. now i want to put my ej22 block in my 05 wrx. has anyone heard of this swap? i love the torquiness of the 22 and the 2.0 flows well all the way to red line with a vf39. i think this would make an awsome hybrid, any info is apreciated.
looking for a 93-01 impreza shell!!! pm me
You should have no problem doing that. You just have to use the EJ22T headgaskets or ones that are the same thickness of the EJ22T because the pistons come OUT of the block so you don't want piston slap.
I had to put my projet EJ22T in my '99 Impreza L Sport Wagon because I messed up the rod bearing on my EJ22E. Used the EJ22T headgasket and running NA. OMG THE POWER OF LOW COMPRESSION AN NO TURBO!!!! lolz!!! Even the Impreza Outback Sport out accelerated me!!
You can put new pistons in the EJ22T if you want because you're taking out the motor.

Talk to Axispower Tuning. The Ej22T w/EJ205 heads is their specialty. They have several different stages of this engine set up from a stock Ej22T shorty to changing the pistons for better compression to a fully built stroked variant. As mentioned, look in the built motor forum on NASIOC. There's a handful of guys who have recently done this hybrid, though it's been done for years...

OT, but just for the sake of correctness, piston slap is when the piston leans inside the cylinder and contacts the cylinder wall. You're talking about valve collision.FuJi K wrote:You should have no problem doing that. Splinter is correct.
This is more of an issue with the skirtless pistons.

I was just thinking of putting in pistons from a '99 EJ25 into my dad's '98 2.5L engine. What I worry about is the skirt not clearing the lower part of the block.....would I have issues? When I put in NEW rod bearings in the '98 motor, seems I could have just put in the '99 piston w/ new rings.
