Putting a 91ss back together: help identify this mess!

Post by n2x4 »

Alright. I bought BAC5.2's parts car, and I'm trying to get everything assembled. He's in Japan right now, so I can't ask him til he gets back, but if anyone can help me fill in the blanks, I'd appreciate it.

What are these two pieces? I think the one on the left is fabbed up for a SAAB intercooler, but the one on the right I have no clue.

This blue harness was disconnected under the dash. I started the car without it connected, and then I saw it was disconnected, so I reconnected it and it still started. What's it for?
Image

Under the hood the intake stuff wasn't connected, so I put it back together the best I could. I can't seem to find where this intake hoes connects to. I thought underneath the plastic part that goes to the TB, but the hose isn't long enough.
Image

This other hose doesn't seem to go anywhere either. It connects to the intake manifold below the brake booster line. I'm guessing it's for the blow off valve? If that's the case, what should I get to replace it with?
Image

On to the dash, which is kinda a mess, what goes into this harness? My legacy L has a blank in this spot on the dash, so I don't know what I'm missing, if anything.
Image

What plugs in here? Is it for the stock stereo?
Image

Last one for now, here's the antenna cable, is this the subaru one? What's the other plug in part for?

no clue on the left one, right one is the connection assembly for a WRX TMIC I believe

Both are part of the PCV system I do believe. I know the top one is definitely, bottom one? eh? maybe the blowoff valve, not 100% there.

cruise control or rear defroster, or both - the buttons, that is.

that harness has been spliced to hell and back, I wouldn't trust it, but I don't think you have much of an option, try to find a stereo that would work for it I suppose.

the connector (second from bottom picture) looks like it could be for a lamp bulb, to light the stock stereo, I'm not sure.

Ok, so it's pretty safe to say the first two are for intercoolers, SAAB and WRX topmount.

Still not sure about blue connector.

Third and fourth pics of the hoses I really think are for the BOV. Since I don't have one, should I just get some aftermarket 50/50 kind?

Thanks for the clue on the dash stuff. As far as the cruse control goes, I don't have the sticks by the wheel, so I guess it's only defrost.

The stereo stuff, I can handle the stereo wire harness, but I'm confused by the antenna wire. There's the piece that goes into the back of the stereo below my thumb, but what's the other part of it for?

I can't exactly tell the size of the plug that's on the left side of the dash (like where the defrost and cruise are), but from this angle, that plug doesn't look big enough to be either one. The Cruise and Rear Defrost have the same type of plug, but they do have two separate plugs.

^^^The one on the left has to be for a Saab Intercooler setup.

Image

^^^I'd have to double check w/ my car but I am almost certain that stays unpluged.

Image

^^^That is for the bypass valve to connect to.

Image

^^^This is the vacuum line that connects to the bypass valve. It supplies the vacuum pressure that opens the bypass valve when shifting, lifting off the throttle, etc...

As for your stereo wiring harness, cut out all the crap that isnt factory then find a good stereo (most new ones come with harnesses to splice in to factory wiring. - super easy if you have a repair manual with wiring diagrams.)

And finally, if you need a stock bypass valve I have one you can have for whatever the cost of shipping is. ;-)
