Osram H4 70/65 Hyper bulb

So I found these on rallylights and thought I'd give them a try.



Previous bulb (Phillips High Visibility 65/55 - standard wattage) on low beam - 55w



note the several feet of snow we got over the holidays.

Now with the slightly higher wattage Osrams on low - 65w




The pics are only so usful as I'm sure it compensates somewhat for the conditions (ie. the new bulbs) but I think it shows a larger splay on the right side, brighter foreground, and brighter/better left cutoff.

anyway - I need to drive with them a bit more to see how they perform but a quick trip to the beer store was last night confirms the driveway impressions.

Those are for off road use only, you're under arrest! I put those on my daughters '94 LSI, and they are a big improvement over stock. Wish they had them to fit my '91!

So I've driven a few cold dark nights with these bulbs now.

I'l say that they are brighter, and throw light further down the road than the stock wattage bulbs. Of course they do not alter the beam pattern per se (they do throw light in a slightly different array), but do give off more useable light.

I do not think that these are truely 65w low beams though. I did the "9005" upgrade to our civic wagon (mod high beam bulbs, 65w, to fit in the low beam plug/housing), and the output difference is AMAZING. I'd say that compared to the honda, these are really more like 60w low beams. I run Osram Weather Visions on the civic (slightly yellow output) fwiw.

I like these bulbs though, and they will go nicely with some fogs when I get around to that... I'm thinking Hella Micro DE's with Yellowstar or Narva gold bulbs (DE's will tuck in nicely and not affect flow to the front mount, etc....) Nothing like the awesome pics I see over on Nabisco of TL or S2000 HID retrofits, but hey - this is actually doable and cost me $40
