Hey, I never claimed to have the answers. :) I just wanted to bring up the two issues I thought of. In this case they happen to conflict.

I guess we all know how the conflict works out...the radiator cannot expel the heat as fast as the engine can make it, at least if the cooling systen is compormisd in some way, by any number of factors, age condition, engine modifications which produce more heat (and of course power) condition of coolant, etc.
...the Subaru Legacies which set the record in 1989-90, were not turbo models? am I correct in saying that? incredible.

Yes, turbos. I distinctly remember the hood scoop and my father's friend trying to explain to me how the turbo worked.

I've gone 136 in my silver one, I thought the windsheild was going to explode not to mention all the air leaks around the windows, pretty scary.
it took a while to get up there basically redlined the poor thing then shifted to neutral and coasted for about 3 miles to save the breaks.
what a rush!!

Since my swap was all done i decided to find out how fast it would go.

I cruised up to 120mph easy enough, but the car would just NOT go any faster. Held 120 for maybe a minute, the needle stayed put.

Later that day while driving on the highway my transmission was acting odd, then 4th dropped out, soon followed by 3rd. I had to cruise the rest of the way in 2nd, on the highway.

When i got to the city i found that the shift from 1-2 was very bad. I had to nearly redline in first then drop of the pedal altogether and it would slam into 2nd and i could keep going.

I put the selector in 2nd and used the manual button to keep the tranny in 2nd at all times, for now it seems to work ok. Now just to find time to put in my spare tranny :P

I hit 120 the other day maybe a lil more, wasn't paying that close attention. I caught traffic but it felt like it could go a lil more on an open stretch
