first and second generation legacy alternators(?)

Post by Fishy »

A thought just hit me (ow), are first and second generation legacy alternators cross-compatable? at a quick glance they look the same between my 94 and my 99 but I'm sure there's some sort of little difference I wouldn't notice untill I had the parts out of the car.

reason I ask is that the alternator in the 99 is starting to "chirp" under load like a bearing going out or something. I've got a spare 1st gen alternator kicking around... you see where this is going :)

I've put 99 alternators on my 91-94 legacy turbos. The connector is different so I used spades. Worked fine other than that. The later alternators are an improved design FWIW.
