Jasper Transmissions to start rebuilding subaru stuff

Post by n2x4 »

I was at a garage I do computer work for the other day, and I was talking to the owner of the shop about if Jasper does subaru transmissions.

He called Jasper up, and the agent he works with said that they've begun working with SOA and are currently rebuilding subaru transmissions and will start selling them around june/july.

He didn't find out any more, but depending on the applications and the prices, us turbo legacy guys may have extra options. Has anyone else heard about this?

Jasper Engines and Transmissions are like the biggest engine and tranny remanufacturer in the US.

I don't know what they do for performance, but my neighbor has a jasper auto tranny in his dodge turbo diesel. He says it's a lot better than the factory tranny (which probably isn't saying much for a chrysler tranny)

I even want to say they have like a 75,000 mile warranty too.

Jasper does do some good stuff.

It's innexpensive enough to have your tranny rebuilt by a local shop. I don't know what market Jasper will have.

Labor on rebuilding a Suby Tranny is $650 plus parts. Not expensive.
2009 Outback 2.5XT. 5MT. Satin White Pearl.
2009 Impreza 2.5i Premium. Blue.

$650 isn't bad, but what about parts?
I thought some of the tranny stuff could only be sourced from Japan. If Jasper struck a deal with SOA, then maybe parts will be cheaper? I don't know how Jasper is for pricing though.

I don't know about any other rebuilders warranty, but according to the Jasper site, it is 3 yrs. or 75k miles, which is pretty good.

In AZ, rebuilding a Suby tranny costs $2,000+ as the base price. Includes R&R.
