So I'm now at 162k, and have been running Valvoline High-Mileage 10W40 oil, I'd say, for the last 14k miles.
I have seen absolutely NO reduction in the amount of oil the car either leaks or burns off. My oil pump still leaks (from the relief valve I think) and my driver's cam carrier O-ring still leaks.
The biggest improvement I have seen in the reduction of oil loss was resealing my oil pan about 3k miles ago. I didn't really notice how much it was actually leaking until I took the old Xmember off.
That said, I am now running plain old Valvoline 10W40 oil. I refuse to run synthetic, and as mentioned, I have seen no return on my extra investment in the high-mileage oil.
Sometime in this century, I will replace my oil pump completely, and try redoing the cam seals one more time, including the cam carrier O-ring, and then I should have fixed all my significant oil leaks the RIGHT way, instead of trying to put a band-aid on it with the high-mileage oil.
No more high-mileage oil
