Is the flex plate a part of the torque converter?

I want to argue this with my transmission shop, becuase coming back to knocking noise thread, people told me the flex plate cracked, now last time they torque converter was touched they said the torque converter was "Cracking" and people here and on USMB told me its called a flex plate. Now i couldn't argue with the guy, because i have no clue how it looks, but he said, the flex plate is not part of the tranmssion in any way, and its a part of the engine, thhat attaches to the starter???????????? I want someone to explain if it this piece I am thinking off that he touched, because they touched the torque converter, and now i hear a knocking noise inside the car, every so often, sometimes its REALLY loud as i said other days i can barely hear it, and its not steady. Please help me out, thanks!

The flex plate is a large dish that is bolted to the crankshaft at the rear of the engine, the torque convertor is then bolted to the flex plate.

OK, well can a torque converter "CRACK" ?

no the torque converter on a subaru cannot crack. it can go bad though.

to get things straight, subarus are different then most cars. most cars, the flexplate has the teeth gears for the starter. but, on the subarus, the teeth gears for the starter are actually built into the torque converter, which is then bolted up to the flexplate, which is bolted to the back of the crank. if your mechanic is not used to working on subarus, then he is gonna learn many a new things, and he will most likely mess things up in the process, until he gets it correct.

I have an extra flex plate here that you can have for the cost of shipping, about $8 (?)
I also have a torque convertor here, if they think this is the problem you can have this for $25 plus shipping.

Thanks alot guys, anyone have diagrams to show how the flexplate and torque converter work? I want to show this guy how it works, so far i got enough info to explain the AWD, and the how the flex plate and torque converter setup is, just to prove him wrong, because he was talking SO much BS, and i really didn't have much to argue, because i did not know much. If no one has some pictures, no problem, the statement Bheinen74 gave was plenty to shove in the guys face.
