Not sure what to do.

Post by magicmike »

Well here is the situation. I have 2 sport wagons as you all can see by my sig. The silver one is the one that I spent around 8k on and has a completly rebuilt long block in it. It also has a 4EAT that makes very loud noises and slips in gear. The body is in really bad shape on it as well. It is currently parked in my garage at my condo. I purchased the white sport wagon when I was looking for a donor car for the engine. The white one is cherry. not a mark on it but it runs like shit from my many threads on here lately trying to figure out why the hesitation is so bad. So, I am planning on putting the motor from the silver one into the white one but my question is this. What do I do with the silver one? do I:

1. pull the engine and junk the car with no engine in it? and try to sell the long block seperately?
2. pull the engine and tranny, have the tranny rebuilt and put the new engine and rebuilt tranny in the white car and put the old engine and tranny in the silver car and sell it?

Any other options or suggestions?

I had wanted to keep both but living in a condo its not easy and I need to make room in the garage for my new car that I'll be getting.

What do you think?

Please do your best to keep both TW's on the road...they are a rare bird...

I would say throw all the good running gear in the really cherry car, and then you can use the other one as a project, or just put the stuff out of the white car in it...either way, it's a win-win situation.

I would love to keep them both but the point is that I live in a condo and dont have the room for 3 cars. I have the room but I only have a single driveway and its a real pain in the ass to move 2 cars out of the way to pull into the garage and there is no parking on the street. the silver wagon's body is pretty f'd up. I'll post some pics while I'm at work tomorrow lol.

I had an idea!

Anyone who comes to help me do the swap can have the silver wagon. I'd like to get it done over a weekend.

5mt swap the one with the bad trans, use it as a winter beater while you really make the other one nice.
keep the nice one in the garage, the beater in front of the door, and the other DD behind it.

Sounds like my problem: too many cars, not enough space.

I would agree with the engine swaps to keep both cars going.

Curious what the new car is going to be????
Yes I have too many Subarus

Above my desk, I've got a 5x8 picture of an old rusty 1970 911s sitting in our yard here at work and the caption reads Even thoroughbreds must go out to pasture sometime

I am going to go against the grain here and say put the good engine in the good car and part out the rest. From the description, it sounds like car #1 has had it's day in the sun. If you sell the parts here, you will know that they are going to help keep other old turbos on the road longer. I have parted out 3 old SS's and TW's in the last 3 years. The parts from those cars have served the members of this board, and especially my local community very very well. All of the cars were rust buckets or worse and even though they could have been "saved" they just weren't worth the trouble. But their parts live on in others of the breed...

I'm currently having a negotiating war with a dealer on a 2005 infiniti G35 coupe with 11k miles. This car is cherry with the exception of some curb damage to two wheels but for the price I'll deal with that. Dark metalic gray exterior with light gray int, with navigation. Its nice and it will be taking the garage spot.

The engine is definately going in the good car, thats not the problem. The problem is that I dont have any free time to deal with a part out. Plus I need to sit on the car while I part it out if I do that. I'd like to get rid of the car and the engine from the white car too. I could sit on the engine I guess and sell that by itself I guess.

Then get the engines swapped and just sell off the complete rustbucket for a grand on craigslist...
