Test fitting WRX seats in a Legacy - comments & pictures

Post by Legacy777 »

Well I know this has been done, and discussed, but I wanted to try it for myself, and have some hard answers.

Seating height - I'm not sure where I heard it, but I was always under the impresion that the WRX seats raised ride height. I did not see any different in the seating height. The seat bottom is actually lower then the Legacy seats, but the height difference (top of my head and the roof liner is pretty much the same)

Seat belt buckle - The auto seat belt buckle is longer and does stick up further then the normal manual seat belt buckle.

Seat width - The WRX seats are wider, and it squeezes the plastic piece that the lap belt comes out of.

I believe if I had manual belts, I could fit the WRX seats in without too much issues.

Here's some pictures

I like those seats actually, they look like they offer better leg support, and look pretty good, well atleast in my legacy, with grey interior.

They would probably be good in your Legacy, if you could get them in baige, or get a leather pair.

Awesome. I love how much side bolstering those have and I like the look of them so much better than RS seats since I have a blue interior.

Have you driven around with it?

And maybe I'll try to find some manual seatbelts while I'm in Canada for Christmas.

I don't have these seats in my car, I simply took them out of my impreza to test fit them into my legacy and see how they would fit.

There's too many issues for me to put them in there. If I had manual seat belts I would put them in.

I am probably just going to have an upholstery shop redo the seats and put bolstering in.

I do have these seats in my impreza, and they are very supportive, I really like it.

Do you have a Legacy L model? My L wagon seats sat considerably higher than the LSi seats in my sedan, and even higher still than the SS seats I replaced them with. Because I was used to the LSI seats I hated the height of the wagon seats... I bet that's the same issue people have had with WRX seats. They may not be as high as the L seats but they're higher than SS seats which is what most people are replacing.

Yeah, originally I had an L. The WRX seats are definitely lower then the L seats....

I don't have a set of SS seats to compare to unfortunately.

The way it felt during all my tests was SS (lowest), then LSI (and I'm assuming LS although I've never sat in one myself), then L, then Forester highest of all. It would be nice if the WRX seats were comparable to the LSI seats, because those are comfortably low, and I would love the extra support and style. Oh well, I guess I'll have to be the guinea pig. ;)

That's how it seems... if and when I find some at the yard when I have money I'll test them out, but if you want to be the guinea pig let me know cause I want to see them in your car. :)

If you can find seats at the u-pull-it on Foster or in Sherwood you can return them within 30 days if they don't fit.

i could always pull the ones outa my 99 legacy and put it in.. but i did find a thread last night with pics showing that while the wrx seats fit, they are wide and dont fit the automatic seatbelts. so looks like its 2.5 RS or Lsi seats for me..

Oooh, you have some already? What are the chances I could test fit them in my car at some point to see how they actually fit? And then we could add one more type of seat to the list of what sits where.

No problem, I don't feel like working on the car in this weather either. I'll definitely take you up on it though.

How's the ride height compare to the stock seats?

I am aquiring some 02 wrx seats this weekend. Ill take pics and let you guys know how it goes and what the fitment/height is in an SS. Im also swaping to some 97 LGT manual seatbelts so ill be sure to document the process.

Here are pics of the WRX seats (less the drivers, picking it up next week  ). I decided to put the non-folding rears in due to superior comfort and my little need for the ability at this point. Fitment of the rear pad required removing a black sticker covering another set of threaded holes that conveniently fit perfectly. As we know with the front seat the 5th mounting hole on the inside rear of the track is not able to be used. Installation of manual seatbelts will make fitment even better.

Ride height from the SS seats to WRX is negligible as far as i can tell. The only difference comes from stiffness of the foam compared to the worn 14 year old foam. If anything the back is down a tish further

If anything I would say that they are a little higher but not drasticly. I havent measured but it does seem that my head is a little closer to roof, but funny enough it feals like i'm sitting lower in the car. Its not enough to outweigh the fact that they are way nicer seats and I dont fall into the passengers lap now when i have some fun on my favorite roads.

So it sounds like the whole ride height issue was a mistake? Or are there some WRX seats that do actually sit a lot higher? It sounds like the 02 WRX seats at least are great in the Legacy.

everyone who has ridden in my car since i swapped the seats has commented on how much nicer they are. The overall height is slightly higher but the back of the wrx seat is nearly even if not lower than the stock seats. If you can get your hands on a set i would defiantly do it but suggest getting manual seat belts

I have a set of WRX seats in my '92 SS, everything fits except you have to swap out the seatbelt buckles ans they are not compatible. You don't have a captive shoulder harness with the WRX seats so you have to slide the auto shoulder belt under the seatbelt buckle stalk like this:

i just got a set as well, they will be going into the rallycross car very soon, with pics and the goods to follow. i'm using a harnes and lapbelt, so i might just pull out the auto belts all together....

ok, i will have pics soon. I installed 02 wrx front seats into my 92 legacy L sedan. on my drivers seat i'm using a racing harness but on the passenger side i made my stock auto belts work with the wrx seats. my pass seat sits higher than my stock L seats but the drivers seat feels a little lower.
