Crash "test" video

Post by schspeedster »

WARNING: Legacy wagon was harmed in the making of this video.

Bummer if it was a fixable car, but if it was going to the crusher anyway at least it provided some entertainment.
toughest Subaru ever!! still ran after

I saw a fair amount of rust on it, so it was probably done for anyway.

Even the headlights still worked after the first few hits! Subaru did a damn good job building cars to withstand collisions.

Wonder how much longer it wouldve ran with some demolition derby prep, like some heavy chains to keep the hood from folding up and punching thru the radiator.

Now lets see him try that again driving the Bronco II. Just kidding that's too dangerous:

http://www.ewg.org/reports/upsidedown/index2.php
Ford engineers abandoned critical road tests with the Bronco II, which, with modest changes, went on to become the Explorer, because these safety tests were too dangerous for test drivers. In safety tests at speeds as slow as 30 miles per hour, the Bronco II repeatedly tipped up on its protective outriggers, clear proof that the vehicles were very likely to roll over in the hands of the driving public.. Less than six months after discontinuing the live test drives, Ford went into production, with no substantial modifications of the vehicle.

I would love to take a legacy to a demo derby. That would have to win in a compact division. Maybe if I find another 2wd one I will. Just wow.

At least they filmed it so everyone can see it. Other wise if it would have just been them in a field being dumbasses. I'm sure there are rednecks all over the world that have been liberated with the power of cheap digital equipment.

That's one reason I used 'my' wagon in my books. Not many cars are tough enough for the necessary abuse without being too big for the other things I needed from the car. Good to know I didn't over-estimate what it can handle for the end of the second novel.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.
