So, my purge valve seized up and I want to replace it. Anyone got a functioning one that they want to sell? If so, how much shipped to 10509?

It doesn't look like a 95-99 valve to me. I know the valve you're talking about, the one on the passenger strut tower. On a 95-99 that's an atmo sensor, on the 91-94 ss cars its a purge.Blackbart wrote:What car do you have? That one is for a few N/A's from 95-99.

I have a 91ss. And yes, it's located on the passenger side strut tower. Anyone got one they want to sell that actually works?

It looks like someone was fooling with your car before you bought it.
If that was the sensor that you removed from the strut tower it is the wrong one. And I don't think replacing it will clear code 35. You may have two problems(?)
1) your canister purge soleniod valve is bad, the one on the intake manifold, that throws code 35.
2) The sensor in the picture is not for any of the 91/94 turbo Legacys and may or may not be working for you.
Or, of course
3)I am having a bad day
I am leaning toward #3

purge control solenoid (code 35) is located NOT on the shock tower.
It is located under the intake runners, behind the power steering pump. it is a hard one to even see, let alone get to.

confusion in this thread.
the sensor on the strut tower is the atmospheric pressure sensor
you have code 35 which is canister purge control solenoid, or just purge control solenoid valve, which is under the intake behind the alt/power steering pump. it has a vacuum hose running to the top of intake, and a "U" shaped short hose going to itself. It looks is similar to the picture you posted. so it looks sort of like that, it also has one bolt holding it to the intake.
the one in your picture is not the solenoid causing your code 35. you found the easy sensor to find, cause all you do is open hood and see it on the shock tower. you need to really really dig your head in there, under the intake, toweards the front part of the engine. it is rearward of the oil pressure switch.

Wait a minute, in my Haynes manual, it says that the purge solenoid is on the shock tower. Did I misinterperate this? Am I wrong?

no, there is 2. one is the primary sensor which is on the intake and it goes bad. the secondary sensor is on the turbo cars only, and it rarely ever goes bad. so please look for the primary sensor, on the intake like we are tellling you to do. find it, replace it, reset ecu

thanks for the quick reply. does not anyone sleep at night? I work the mids. messes up the day for sure.
will check the coe again. I replaced a TPS and it was still coding 35. could be I replaced the wrong item. and I have another motor to check if it is this switch/item. will excharge it with this switch to see if it stops coding. last one you see!
thanks, Daniel.

Oh, snap! I'm a dumba$$ then. The guy sent me the right part then. Here's a pic of what he sent me next to what I incorrectly thought was the bad part. It appears that I thought the secondary valve was the primary. Ooops, my bad. Can anyone confirm for me that the part on the right is the primary and the one on the left is the secondary?

The one on the left does not belong in your car, (not even on the shock tower)somebody replaced it with the wrong year, there should be a breather canister on the right side where the third nipple is. The numbers on it are wrong also. It may or may not be working for you.
The difference may just be that this one conects to a vac line when the correct one has the breather.

Ok, now I'm really confused. What should be mounted on the shock tower then? What does it look like and what is the part number?
I'd have a pretty hard time believing that it's the wrong solenoid as the car was a single owner car and the owner was a soccer mom. Unless her mechanic screwed it up.. ... Anything's possible I guess..
I'd still like some pics and or part numbers of how it should be set up. Thanks all.....

I don't even know if I would change it, it may be working just as well as the correct one, my guess is that the canister is just for keeping out dust and little bugs. Maybe the ones for our cars are no longer available and this is the replacement(?) If he stuck the canister on yours I would not have seen a difference.
If you do want to change it I have one here, same price as the purge solenoid.

It did have a small black cylinder attached to one end that looked like a simple plug. Is that what you're referring to?

The part on the right is the primary.
I have the same code and just got one to replace it with. PO of my car didn't tighten it down all the way, and I think the vibrations killed it.
I also plan on putting it somewhere other than where it is stock, since it's a royal PITA to get to.
