AIC Issue?

Post by BXSS »

I have a '94 L-SS that is suffering from an unstable idle (750-500RPMs) when warm.
Vacuum decreased from 19inHG to 15inHG & I thought I had a decrease of compression in 1 CYL (#2 from 180-160psi).
The car runs perfectly as soon as I step on the gas & will hold a steady idle if I give it a bit of throttle.
I checked for Vac. leaks with carb cleaner - none found.
Does this sound like a bad AIC?
I bought an EJ20G to swap in, but would like to hold off on that until it gets a bit warmer if possible.

Is it worse when other electrical circuits are powered? Basically, does it happen when you step on the brake, turn the radio on, or use the power windows?

My car has a very similar problem, and I believe it is because the electrical system is too heavily taxed.... Basically, when I grounded my new headunit very well, the engine started to idle low/stall when I used it and/or stepped on the brakes, etc...

I am no electrical engineer, but I do believe, like everything else, power flows through the path of least resistance. - Add proper grounds and you might see some significant improvement...

I've been too lazy to do the grounding mod - I might just wait until my new motor goes in...

Nope, it just happens when the car is warm.

Happens to mine when the car is warm as well. When the car is cold, the ecu idles the engine a little higher - therefore no stumbling...
