I have to thank Carlos aka BXSS for turning me on to this little car. I visited him in the Bronx today and he showed me how they build race cars when money is tight and parts are plentiful. I'm talking about rx7 motors in Toyota Starlets with turbos off of 18 wheelers. Awesome!

Anyway, those little cars reminded me of a car I see everyday in my neighborhood. It's a 1971 Dodge Colt. It has 19,000 miles on it. It used to belong to this guy's mom and it's been sitting in his driveway for 3 years. I'll have real pics of the actual car in a week or so but, here's some stock pics of what it looks like I found on the web.

Beautiful! I love those kinds of old sport coupes from the sixties/seventies. I wish they still made that type of small, rwd, light weight, cheap, car. The '84 hardtop I'd like to get would be modded to resemble that era of car. I think it comes from the Ford Capri we had when I was real young. I really think it's a matter of time before the market for these types of things picks up. Hell, I don't know what other old cars are left for collectors who aren't millionaires. Plus as this generation that knows Datsun 510s and old Corollas (2002s and Alfas are already appreciated) grows up they'll be looking for these things.

Are you buying it?
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Just about any older Japanese car has an appeal to me like no other. I just can't find the personality and quirkiness in older American cars that I can in these.

I'd love to have the 65 Silvia that the guy who owns the NICO forums got a couple years ago.

Or the Isuzu 117 coupe.

8 months later, and I still can't help but smile when I look at my 79 and know that I own it. And I haven't even driven it yet.

I get the feeling that the car I found is heading for a makeover complete with 13b, huge turbo and sub 11 second quarter miles. Carlos' friends seem to be pretty good at that.
